Browse the Web Safely

There are a lot of scary things out there - out in the web that is. The biggest concern right now is identity theft. With the Web it has become way too easy for the bad guys to get access to your personal information. Just click on the wrong link and you suddenly become a very unlucky individual. Nope, you can never be truly safe. You can be safer though with the right security programs installed on your computer.

Not too long ago I discovered SiteAdvisor, a free product made available by McAfee, which installs itself on top of your web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) and warns you of links that have been reported as "bad" links. It is a very useful program and is very easy to install. Once it's installed you don't have to do anything complicated. Just browse the web like you normally do and watch out for warnings from SiteAdvisor before clicking on a link.

Below is an example of the warnings that you get by using SiteAdvisor:

SiteAdvisor Example

The red Xs warn you about "bad" sites and the green check marks basically tell you that there is no problem with that link. All you have to do is stay away from the red Xs!

Download SiteAdvisor and give it a try.
